Amazon breaks ground on $1.5 billion airport development at CVG

Last Tuesday, Amazon broke ground on a new $1.5 billion development by the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG). The online retail company signed a 50-year lease on more than 900 acres of CVG property in 2017.

The airport will help Amazon go all-in on Prime one-day delivery service, and will give the company more control over its shipping practices, eliminating the need for UPS, USPS, and FedEx. It will also create an estimated 2,000 jobs for the region.

“This hub is going to let us get packages to customers faster,” says Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, who was present at the groundbreaking. “We’re going to move Prime from two-day (delivery) to one day, and this hub is a big part of that.”
